Tour to Los Angeles in December, good or not?

I plan to have a 4-day vacation to Los Angeles in December, but I don’t know whether it is good or not. Should I go by myself or attend a tour agency? Any idea will be appreciate.

There’s really not much to see in LA. Of course i was born and raised here so the regular things may not excite me. Still though, some of the best known places like Hollywood/Vine, are dumps and can even be dangerous at times. But again, this city has very little history, meaning few real landmarks, not like Boston or Chicago.

All depends what you want to do.

If you just want to see theme parks like Disneyland and Universal, just go on your own.

If you want to roam around and see different things and want someone to take care of you, then take a tour.

Probably need some more information to give you a good answer. Will you have a car? What kinds of interests do you have?

Los Angeles is spread out, but easy to get around in with a car. There is a subway which covers a small part of the city and buses too.A car will give you the freedom you don’t have with a tour.

There are several amusement parks within an hour of Los Angeles if you’re into that. Disneyland, Knotts, Universal Studios, and Magic Mountain. (the latter - may only be open on the weekends in the winter)

There are a lot of museums if you’re into that. The Getty Museum, Norton Simon, LA Brea Tar Pit are all good museums.

If you’re into live music or dance clubs, there’s plenty of places for that along the Sunset strip. A few plays and musicals, such as Wicked are options if you’re a theater goer. There are several comedy and improv clubs too. Do a search on LAWeekly.com or Pollstar for events and shows.

Our hockey team sucks, which means that tickets to the Kings are usually available. The Lakers and Clippers (basketball) also play at the Staple Center. A little pricey, but fun too.

Locals don’t go on Star Home tours and from what I hear, you typically see a lot of nice ivy and gates - not much else. As someone else mentioned, the Hollywood and Vine scene attracts tourists, but it also attracts undesireables. I’ve lived out here for 40 years, never been a victim of crime - but like any large city - don’t be caught with your guard down.

The weather in Dec should range from 40 F low to 65-75 F high. Rain is not really something one can predict. I hope this helps.

If you’re not familiar with the city then I suggest contacting viptoursandcharters.com. I used them last year and they some really great tours of the city such as the Movie Stars’ Homes Tour and the grand tour of L.A. which includes stops at the Hollywood Walk of Fame where you see the Kodak Theatre, the Hollywood Sign, the Laugh Factory and the Sunset Strip. You also see Venice Beach, the Pacific Ocean, Santa Monica, Marina del Rey, Beverly Hills and the Farmer’s Market right across from CBS Studios. They also offer other tours such as Universal Studios, Disneyland and the San Diego Zoo. I traveled to L.A. in February and the weather was absolutely great. Everyday I was there, it was about 70 degrees. I hope this helps and enjoy your trip!!

If it will be your first time to visit Los Angeles, I think you’d better choose a tour agency. So you will not cost too much time searching the attractions on the map or get lost, and miss some places really exciting. Visiting December is ok, you can go. I recommend that you can use tours4fun’s 4 day Los Angeles theme parks tour package. You can experience Disneyland, Adventure Park, CA, San Diego Sea World, Universal Studios, very amazing.
