The Robert Blake place is called Vitellos. It's awesome! On Tujunga between Ventura Moorpark. The food is really good traditional so is the restaurant! Red white checked table cloths, Chianti, etc. Also reasonable...

Spago In Beverly Hills. It will be an amazing dining experience and also good for Celeb spotting if you dine during the week. Another Celeb spot is Il Sole in W. Hollywood - again dine during the week.

Another interesting place is Musso Franks on Hollywood Blvd. Its been there forever. Im sure you can google it or look here:

For celeb spotting, try THE IVY or THE GRILL ON THE ALLEY for lunch. For dinner there's KOI, GEISHA HOUSE or IL SOL.
.
For history try...

THE RAINBOW BAR AND GRILL: Hollywood (Sunset strip). Good Italian-American food, bar and a crazy past. I've heard there is a wooden table in the kitchen reserved for bands like the Rolling Stones. It's an old rock and roll hang-out... you'll probably find some guys who look like Keith Richards drinking and smoking outside.

THE POLO LOUNGE: Go for breakfast or Sunday brunch. It's in the Beverly Hills hotel... tons of history.

For casual LA nostalgia, THE APPLE PAN, THE ORIGINAL TOMMY'S BURGER (on Beverly Blvd), CORA'S CAFE (in Santa Monica), THE OLD SPAGHETTI FACTORY or PINKS. Or go to Olvera Street, near Downtown for amazing Mexican food.

The Pantry was actuallty closed for a few days! It was shut down by the Health Department under the ownership of then Mayor, Richard Riordan.

The Pacific Dining Car in Downtown is also a good spot.

For historic places, a few suggestions:

The Original Pantry Cafe at 877 S Figueroa - claims never to have closed since it opened in 1924 (including during the LA riots). Mixed reviews on the food, but historic.

Clifton's Cafeteria on 648 S Broadway has a great story and has to be experienced. Comfort food. They served people without jobs and took no $ if the person couldn't afford it during the Great Depression.

Yamashiro's Restaurant - 1999 N Sycamore, Hollywood. Buit in 1913; very historical, great views (and expensive), some movies filmed there.

Nate Al's Deli - 414 N Beverly Dr. Beverly Hills. Supposedly a good celebrity sighting place, as well as good deli foods (breakfasts are good but pricey, as you'd expect from the location)

Robert Blake actually dined at Vitello's on Tujunga in Studio City, not Barone's. There is a dish on the menu named after him.
